The game is being developed by Team Ninja (KOEI TECMO Games) and Platinum Games, known for Bayonetta and NieR: Automata, and has been in development for several years (according to the Steam Database, there was an update in development as of September 28, 2023). The new Ninja Gaiden installment will keep true to the action and challenges seen in the series, but will carry over the speed and dynamics Platinum Games is known for. The focus will be on the incredibly fast-paced combat system, with many new mechanics and abilities in addition to the traditional ninja mowing.
The announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4 had to wait until 2025, when it was first revealed at Developer_Direct 2025 alongside Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, thanks to publisher Xbox Games Studios.  There is currently no exact release date for the game, it is promised for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in Autumn 2025. 1

The Black Dragon, the youngest of the dragon gods, had been wreaking havoc for some time, and only a ninja could stop him. But the Black Dragon was not completely destroyed, his dusty shell remained and a cursed rain poured down from him continuously, unstoppable. In Tokyo, drenched by the Rain of Darkrot and abandoned to its destruction, chaos reigns, and fighting continues. The city will not be free of this curse until the rain stops. Ryu Hayabusa and his clan are on a mysterious mission to the streets of Tokyo, where we meet him. The game's protagonist will be Yakumo, a member of the rival Raven clan. He follows in the footsteps of Ryu, whose motives will be revealed throughout the story, and as a result we will often come into conflict with him. But he is not the threat to us. Our goal is to defeat the Black Dragon once and for all and thus free the city from the curse, and we will be constantly hindered by the Divine Dragon Order, which can keep Tokyo under control, guard the Black Dragon's seal and control the horde of demons that lurk in the world. We must hurry, for the curse is gradually destroying Tokyo: buildings are collapsing, roads are caving in, and we must find a way forward. In the vast city, we are given vertical freedom of movement: we can jump up and down tall buildings and skate on railway tracks, all the while using our ninja skills and tools. These include Raven Style and Bloodbind Ninjutsu Nué Style, a new mechanic in Ninja Gaiden games that lets you slash your opponents at breakneck speed, turning the tide of battle against serious overwhelming odds. This will be very important, as bloody, fierce enemies will be in our way, with many old friends returning.
