Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition will be released 23 years after the birth of the classic strategy game. The latest revamped version is not only being developed by the original developer, FireFly Studios itself, but by several members of the original development team. In addition to the graphical overhaul, new content will be added to the virtual crusade: units, characters and new campaigns. The game's musical world has also been remixed and revamped with the approval of legendary composer Robert L. Euvino, whose melodies we've already enjoyed in the Stronghold series.
According to the SteamDB database ¹, the first noticeable change to Stronghold Cursader: Definitive Edition is May 28, 2024, so development was definitely underway on that date. However, the official unveiling of the game had to wait until 20 January 2025, when a demo was made available to try out.

[2025-01-20]: FireFly Studios has officially announced Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, timed for Steam RTS Fest. We've learned that what we're getting is not a simple overhaul from the original developers, but a significant amount of new content and modern-day visuals. At the same time, they've made a demo of the game available on Steam. The game is scheduled for release on 15 July 2025 for PC.

[2025-05-23]: The developers revealed that the game demo has been downloaded more than 150,000 times, which is three times more than the Stronghold: Definitive Edition demo.
More good news is that players have sent so much valuable feedback to the developers via the feedback form available since January 20 that new features will be implemented in the game: the map will handle up to 10,000 units, there will be a few new Islamic buildings and Islamic workers (playable by Arab and Bedouin Lords), there will be leaderboards and XXL-sized maps. | [Source: Steam, Press Release]
