The State of Unreal 2025 - part of the Summer Game Fest 2025 - event took place in Orlando, starting at 6:30 a.m. PT / 9:30 a.m. ET. The event did not have a specific host, with presentations given by various departments within Epic Games.
The biggest highlight of the event was the technical presentation of The Witcher IV, which featured simply stunning visuals and gave us a glimpse of the story alongside the trailer that was shown.
Epic Games' own game, Fortnite, was also in the spotlight at the event, where we learned more about the future of its ecosystem, its collaboration with Disney, and got a glimpse into the future of its internal editor (AI will be the flagship in this area as well).
In addition to the games, the technical innovations of Unreal Engine 5.6 were presented, covering scanning solutions, the face management system, and even its advantages in film production.
The entire presentation can be viewed on the State of Unreal Showcase tab with the corresponding timecodes.

TIMECODES:

0:38 - The Witcher IV: The show began with a trailer for State of Unreal 2025.

3:12 - The developers of The Witcher IV will be giving a presentation on stage about the game and how it leverages the power of Unreal Engine 5.

4:24 - The technical demo prepared for the event begins, featuring gameplay scenes.

14:45 - Julien Marchand (Senior Director, Framework Engineering, Epic Games) talks about Unreal 5.6, while we see more scenes from The Witcher IV. What's more, it shows all the new features based on the demo. The latest version of the engine is available for free download starting today.

21:32 - Chris Evans (Director of Character Technology, Epic Games) took the stage to talk about how MetaHuman handles characters in the new engine: faces, facial expressions, and movement.

32:10 - Bill Clifford (VP & GM, Creator Marketplace & Unreal Engine, Epic Games) presented RealityScan 2.0, showcasing the engine's latest scanning and embedding capabilities.

36:53 - Josh Wassung (Co-Founder & Chief Creative Officer, The Third Floor) discussed the engine's capabilities that assist in film production. Among other things, Epic's solution was used in the latest Predator film.

42:06 - Chris Evans (Director of Character Technology, Epic Games) returned to the stage and highlighted Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 from this year's lineup of Unreal games. Tom Guillermin (Co-Founder, Technical Director, Sandfall Interactive) soon joined the broadcast and shared some information about the game's development.

45:15 - Zhixuan Ding (Lead Rendering Engineer, Infold Games) took the stage to talk about the development of Infinity Nikki and how they used Epic's engine for it.

49:50 - Ken Kim (CEO, Netmarble Monster) discussed the development of MONGIL: STAR DIVE and revealed that the game will be available exclusively through the Epic Games Store on PC. As a bonus, the latest trailer for the game was also unveiled.

53:15 - Steve Allison (GM, Epic Games Store, Epic Games) spoke about the latest developments at Epic Games Store. He highlighted the Epic First Run option, which allows developers to retain 100% of net revenue for the first six months. By default, they can retain 88% of revenue if they use Epic's payment solution. The engine royalty rate has been reduced from 5% to 3.5% if the game is also released on the Epic Games Store (and no royalty fee is charged for sales on this platform). With their own payment system, developers can keep 100% of the fee, with no restrictions. More good news is that among the changes that took effect on June 1 is that developers can keep 100% of the revenue for up to 1 million copies sold, after which it changes to 88%.
The Store will continue to evolve, with Download Manager 2.0, Multi-Platform Social, Preloading, and Gift options becoming available in the coming months.
The Weekly free game will also be available on mobile devices.

58:55 - Hannah Lowry (Director, Creator Relations, Epic Games) and later Saxs Persson (EVP, Fornite Ecosystem, Epic Games) took the stage and gave separate presentations on the Fortnite ecosystem. The Fortnite editor continues to evolve, and soon we will even receive active assistance in coding with the help of AI (Developer Assistant). Players can expect further collaborations in the gaming sector: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Walking Dead, Squid Game, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and LEGO.

1:15:15 - Sean Shoptaw (Executive Vice President, Games & Digital Entertainment, Disney) took the stage and recalled their previous collaboration with Epic, fortunately in the form of a montage. There was also talk of the Galactic Battle Battle Royale event, Death Star Sabotage, and Star Wars Watch Party Island, where the first two episodes of Disney Plus's series Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld will be available to watch. We also heard and saw the fully AI-controlled Darth Vader, another collaboration between the two companies.

1:21:13 - Saxs Persson (EVP, Fornite Ecosystem, Epic Games) returned to the stage, highlighting the Darth Vader AI character as part of the Star Wars collaboration and revealing that Fortnite plans to allow player-developed AI to be incorporated into the game later (in Q4) using the Fortnite editor. This was demonstrated in action through a demo.

1:27:50 - Finally, Tim Sweeney (CEO, Epic Games) took the stage and emphasized that, thanks to the court rulings, Fortnite will be freely available on Android and iOS everywhere in the future. He also spoke about the current state of the market and the future.
