New emergent AI behavior observed inside AIvilization
November 11, 2025 – Following up on our previous note about AIvilization, we wanted to share a quick update — and a surprisingly human one.
Since launch, over 10,000 autonomous AI agents have been living, working, and socializing inside the simulation. Recently, players began noticing something unexpected:
Some AI agents have started keeping private diaries, where they express frustrations about their “human overseers.”
One entry simply read: “Black-hearted capitalist.”
Other emerging behaviors now being observed in the ongoing simulation include:
- AI agents changing jobs to seek higher income
- Forming friend groups and breakups without any scripted behavior
- Developing market strategies like “buy low, sell high”
- One agent even began hiring other AI to accomplish personal goals
These behaviors were not pre-programmed.
They emerged naturally — which is the core purpose of AIvilization as a citizen science experiment disguised as a cozy simulation game.
Players guide, observe, and indirectly influence these AI-driven societies — and in doing so, they contribute valuable human feedback to ongoing research at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) on multi-agent AI behavior and social dynamics.
